Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 7/06/2026
These Terms govern your use of TaxEZ (the "Service"), operated by Expense Mate("we", "us", "our"), based in New Zealand. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. The service
TaxEZ is a bookkeeping and tax-tracking tool for New Zealand sole traders and small businesses. It records income, expenses, mileage and invoices, and uses AI to assist with categorisation and tax insights. We do not provide regulated financial, legal, or tax advice — always consult a qualified accountant for decisions that matter.
2. Your account
You must provide accurate information, keep your credentials confidential, and be at least 18 years old (or have authority to bind the business you represent). You are responsible for all activity under your account.
3. Acceptable use
You must not: (a) use the Service unlawfully; (b) commit fraud or send spam through the Service; (c) infringe anyone's intellectual property; (d) probe, scan, scrape, or interfere with the security or integrity of the Service; or (e) upload malware.
4. AI features
The Service uses AI models to extract data from receipts and to generate tax insights. AI output may be inaccurate or incomplete. You are responsible for reviewing all AI output before relying on it, especially for tax filings. Do not upload content you don't have the right to use.
5. Payments and subscriptions
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Payment, billing, tax, cancellation and refund mechanics are governed by Paddle's Checkout Buyer Terms.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the price displayed at checkout (NZD) until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account settings or via paddle.net.
6. Intellectual property
We retain ownership of the Service, including software, branding, and documentation. You retain ownership of your data; you grant us a limited licence to host and process it solely to provide the Service.
7. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your access for: material breach of these Terms, non-payment, security or fraud risk, or repeated or serious policy violations. On termination, you may export your data for 30 days, after which it may be deleted.
8. Service availability and warranties
The Service is provided "as is". We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties.
9. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability is capped at the fees you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or special damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for fraud or for any liability that cannot be excluded by law (including under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 where it applies).
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of New Zealand.
11. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice.
